Moldova TravelMoldova may be one of the poorest countries of Europe, but you should know that the locals are welcoming and friendly. The country is rich in history, there are abundant vineyards, and there are different kinds of monasteries, and ancient forests, all of which combine to make it a great place to visit. It’s not one of the most prominent tourist destinations out there, but if you are looking for a slightly unique and offbeat place to go to this summer, then why not try Moldova?

Moldova is a small agriculture-based country which is situated in the Southern part of the European Plain, which borders on the North, East and South with Ukraine, and in the West with Romania. The border between Moldova and Romania is defined by the Prut and the Nistru rivers. The climate is mostly temperate, and the average annual temperature ranges between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius. Summer is the ideal time to visit, because of the comfortable warmth. The winters are short and mild.

Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, is the main attraction of the country. It has everything a tourist could ever want. There are many monuments, cathedrals and museums – which, by the way, have survived severe bombing during World War II. One of the major tourist attractions in Moldova is the house where Pushkin spent his exile days, writing some of his most renowned works. When you are in Chisinau, you will be struck by the Soviet-style governmental architecture – of course there are also many neo-classical buildings for you to check out.

When you are travelling to Moldova, you will see that leaving aside the general poverty of the country, it is still a pretty appealing tourist spot – which many unique attractions. The country has rich Romanian and Russian influences – through language and culture. Chisinau, as stated before, is the best place to visit – there you can see the remnants of national history which are told to tourists through the various tourist attractions. There are many white buildings which will surely catch your eye. What’s more, the greenery is also very lush. The capital is quite attractive and is fast modernizing itself, despite damage during the Second World War.

The thing that you need to know about Moldova is that it is still in the process of discovering its identity. This is due to the fact that it has spent most of its rule under foreign domination, not to mention being ravaged during World War II. So if you want to see a good example of tension between new and old, then this is the time to visit.

The Triumphal Arch is one of the major attractions of Moldova – this is a clock-bearing structure which is a combination of Corinthian columns, and various other styles that reflect the Roman and Greek traditions. There is a giant copper bell which is suspended from the dome of the arch, but you would be interested to know that chimes (and not the bells) sound the hours.
