Cyprus TravelCyprus is one of those places that you simply must see. It offers a lot to the average visitor – in terms of things to do, places to explore, and food to eat. Before you know it, your holiday will have finished, and you won’t have done anything much – which is why we shall tell you some of the stuff you must do in Cyprus!

When it comes to culture and history, Cyprus offers a lot. You can go see the Tombs of the Kings; it takes about 1.70 Euros to enter. You will be able to see a vast network of chambers and burial tombs. Then there is also the Coral bay – which is a pretty little bay with some restaurants on the beach. Ideal to sit back, put up your feet and relax. If you would like to take in some pretty scenery, then try Avakas Gorge. Also do try to pay a visit to Polis – which is a resort town of sorts in the south. It has some nice beaches close by. Don’t miss Asprokremos Beach – which lies a few kilometers west of Polis. Then there’s the Caledonian falls – located in the Troodos Mountains near Platres, they are 11 meters in height, and even more beautiful in spring, which is when the water flows much stronger.

Of course, you can’t go to Cyprus without going to Mount Olympus. The scenery around that part is lovely – but the actual Mount Olympus isn’t too exciting as the top is a military base, and you’re not allowed to go up. However, you can take in a nice walk around the area.

Khirokitia is another must-see, if you are into ruins. There are ruins there which are over 9000 years old. You might think afterwards that it wasn’t much to look at it, but it’s cheap and it makes for a great experience for the budget traveler. Pano Leftkara is a little village situated up in the mountains – it’s very pretty and peaceful, and if you like photography, it’s a total dream come true for you, as it has old buildings and some windy side streets. Very picturesque indeed! Plus a lot of lace is made here, so you can learn the art of lace-making.

If you’d like to look at some unusual places of worship, try Hala Sultan Tekke – which is one of the few mosques in the South. It’s beside the salt lake (a big lake next to the city), right by the airport.

The Troodos Mountains, though, as we said, are spectacular – they’re located right in the center of the island, and if you want an alternative to the beaches, then this is the right paradise for you. With rugged rock formations and lovely views – it’s definitely worth it spending some days here. Plus, if you go there in winter, you can do some skiing on the slopes. What’s more, there are some nice hiking trails, which help you experience the mountain scenery better.
